Elissa Sursara

Elissa Sursara is an Australian biologist, National Geographic blogger and explorer working on behalf of endangered species, threatened habitats and all animals in crisis. Having studied some of the world’s most iconic and endangered species, Elissa has reported on wildlife and the environment in every corner of the planet.

In 2012, at the invitation of mentor and sea shepherd founder captain paul watson, elissa joined the m/y Steve Irwin on a five-month mission to antarctica that saw 932 whales saved from whaling in the southern ocean. Later, Elissa joined Sea Shepherd’s prestigious board of advisors alongside actor pierce brosnan, primatologist Dr Birute Galdikas, model Brigitte Bardot and actor and philanthropist Sean Penn.

In 2014, Elissa joined the national geographic as a writer for the award-winning news blog, news watch.

Elissa is the ambassador to the world wildlife fund’s earth hour alongside supermodel miranda kerr, australia zoo’s wildlife warriors alongside the veronicas, and for 1% for the planet alongside musician jack johnson. Elissa is also the ambassador of cruelty-free beauty brand, ecotan.

A television personality, Elissa is a cast member on animal planet’s whale wars and appears frequently as a guest in international media. Today, Elissa boasts a following of more than 500,000 people – and growing. She is one of the most popular and influential australians on social media.
